In his first year in the mens O65 age group, Derek made a winning start by firstly taking the singles title without dropping a set. After beating the number 1 seed, Poland’s Roman Mrozek 6-3,6-1, Derek went on to defeat his doubles partner Alan Purnell 7-5, 6-2, in the final.
In the Doubles final Derek and Alan teamed up to beat reigning champions Norman Church and Mike Francis 6-3, 6-4. The evergreen Ken Buswell was runner up in the Mens O75 Doubles and Mick Webb reached the semi finals of the O60 singles and the doubles with Geoff Cliff. Streetly’s new Head Coach Neil Goldsby made a great debut in the mens O35 events reaching both the singles and doubles semi finals.
Streetly has now one of the strongest veterans set up’s in the country and are looking to continue their success at all levels. It looks likely that both the Mens over 55 and 60’s teams will be asked to play in the European Seniors club championships during the summer of 2010. |
